Honda Acitva : In a groundbreaking move that’s set to electrify the Indian two-wheeler market, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has officially unveiled its first electric scooter – the Activa e.
This launch marks Honda’s grand entry into the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) segment in India, bringing with it the legacy of the iconic Activa name and the promise of cutting-edge technology.
Honda Acitva The Dawn of a New Era
The Activa e isn’t just another addition to Honda’s lineup; it’s a bold statement of intent.
As Tsutsumu Otani, Managing Director, President & CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, puts it, “The introduction of the Activa e is in line with Honda’s global ‘Triple Action to ZERO’ concept to realize carbon neutrality by 2050, focusing on carbon neutrality, clean energy, and resource circulation.”
Honda Acitva Powertrain and Performance
At the heart of the Activa e lies an in-house developed permanent magnet synchronous electric motor.
This powerhouse delivers a peak power of 6 kW and an impressive torque of 22 Nm.
Honda claims the Activa e can sprint from 0 to 60 km/h in just 7.3 seconds, with a top speed of 80 km/h.
These figures put it squarely in the league of performance-oriented electric scooters, promising an exhilarating ride for urban commuters and enthusiasts alike.
Honda Acitva Range and Battery Technology
One of the most innovative aspects of the Activa e is its battery system.
The scooter comes equipped with two swappable Honda Mobile Power Pack e batteries, each with a capacity of 1.5 kWh.
This dual-battery setup offers a claimed range of 102 km on a full charge, addressing one of the primary concerns of EV adoption – range anxiety.
The swappable battery technology is a game-changer. Honda has plans to set up a network of Power Pack Exchanger e: (swapping stations) across various cities, starting with Bengaluru and Delhi, and soon expanding to Mumbai.
This infrastructure will allow riders to quickly swap out depleted batteries for fully charged ones, dramatically reducing downtime and extending the scooter’s effective range.
Honda Acitva Variants and Features
The Activa e will be available in two variants:
Activa e (base model)
Activa e: Honda RoadSync Duo
The RoadSync Duo variant takes the tech quotient up a notch with a 7.0-inch TFT screen that offers real-time connectivity with the Honda RoadSync Duo app.
This advanced infotainment system supports navigation and features day and night modes that automatically optimize screen brightness and readability based on ambient light conditions.
Both variants come packed with features that blend convenience with cutting-edge technology:
Three riding modes: Econ, Standard, and Sport
Dual-tone seat for added comfort
12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels for style and stability
Flat footboard for ease of use
Sturdy grab rail for passenger safety
All-LED lighting with distinctive “smiling” DRLs
Honda’s H-Smart key system with Smart Find, Smart Safe, Smart Unlock, and Smart Start functions
Honda Acitva Design and Aesthetics
The Activa e retains the familiar silhouette of its ICE counterpart but with a modern, electric twist.
The scooter will be offered in five eye-catching colors: Pearl Shallow Blue, Pearl Misty White, Pearl Serenity Blue, Matt Foggy Silver Metallic, and Pearl Igneous Black. This diverse palette ensures that there’s an Activa e to match every rider’s style.
Honda Acitva Market Positioning and Availability
Initially, the Activa e will be available at all pre-existing Honda dealers in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, with deliveries scheduled to start from February 2025.
This phased rollout strategy allows Honda to fine-tune its production and distribution based on initial market response.
Honda Acitva The QC1: A Compact Companion
Alongside the Activa e, Honda has also introduced the QC1, a more compact electric scooter aimed at short-distance urban commuters. The QC1 features:
A single, fixed 1.5 kWh battery pack
80 km range on a full charge
0-80% charging in 4 hours and 30 minutes
In-wheel electric motor with 1.8 kW peak power and 77 Nm torque
Top speed of 50 km/h
Two riding modes: Standard and Econ
5.0-inch all-info LCD display
26 liters of under-seat storage
Honda Acitva Manufacturing and Warranty
Both the Activa e and QC1 will be manufactured at Honda’s state-of-the-art Narsapura plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka. Honda is backing its foray into the EV market with a robust warranty package:
3-year or 50,000 km warranty
